The Gender Division, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other ministries, conducted an awareness meeting on the Gender Equality Seal, on 19th December, 2023. The meeting included the participation of the Permanent Secretary, Mainga D. Kabika (Mrs.), and representatives from various ministries and the UNDP.
During the meeting, Mrs. Mainga D. Kabika emphasized the significance of the event, stating that it represents a crucial moment in the ongoing effort to achieve gender equality. She highlighted that gender equality is not solely a women’s issue but a societal and economic necessity. Mrs. Kabika stressed the importance of creating a world where every individual, irrespective of gender, has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to the best of their abilities.
Furthermore, she addressed the persistent challenges faced by women and girls, including discrimination, inequality, and violence based on their gender. Mrs. Kabika asserted that such circumstances are unacceptable and unsustainable. She called for collective action to dismantle the barriers that have hindered a significant portion of the global population for too long, emphasizing the need for a just and equitable world for everyone.
